Please amend your diaries to reflect this change. The Summons will be issued as early as possible in the New Year.
Best regards
Neil Hollingsworth, P.A.G.D.C.
Sutcliffe Lodge MMM No. 188 receives 150th warrant
Sutcliffe Lodge MMM No 188 were very pleased & honoured to receive several special Guests. Including our PGM Stephen Hallberg, The assistant PGM Phil Aitken, W/ Bro Colin Fox, W/Bro. Brian McDonough, & the PGM representative W/Bro Richard Garn.

On This special Installation evening, were the 150th Anniversary Warrant was read out by the secretary. The PGM then presented the warrant to the lodge to the lodge via the WM.
Death of V.W. Brother John Charles Board, P.G.S.O., Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master.
The sad news was confirmed yesterday that V.W. Bro John Charles Board had died, I express here the condolences of our Provincial Grand Master along with those of his Executive members. John had been ill for some time, but his death will still shock many.
In the Mark degree John joined The Sutcliffe Lodge in September 1982 where he was Installed as Worshipful Master in 1994.
He was a founder member of The Haven Lodge of MMM in October 1984 and went on to join the Leonard Anderson Lodge of Installed Mark Masters in September 1998, being Installed as Worshipful Master in 2006.
John was appointed Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies in 1998, a position he held for 10 years before being made Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies in 2008. He remained in that office until his appointment as Deputy Provincial Grand Master in 2010. He held that high office with distinction for a further 7 years.
He was meanwhile appointed to Grand Rank in 2000 as P.A.G.D.C. before being promoted to G.S.D in 2008. He was promoted to P.G.J.O. in 2012 and finally to P.G.S.O. in 2018.
In the Ancient and Honourable Fraternity of Royal Ark Mariners, John joined the Heneage Lodge in 1985, where he was Installed as Commander in 1996. He was a founder member of The Haven Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners in 1995 and also of The Millennium Lodge of Installed Commanders in 2000 where he was Installed as Commander in 2003.
John was appointed Prov.R.A.M.G.R. in December 1999 and went on to be appointed R.A.M.G.R. in 2001 serving with distinction as Deputy Provincial Grand Master from 2010 in tandem with that office in the Mark degree.
John was a mainstay of many other Orders within the Province but particularly of course The Grand College of the Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests where he was Grand Superintendent of this District for 10 years from 2004, being honoured to have had a Tabernacle named after him, the John Charles Board Tabernacle, No. 261 at Cleethorpes in 2014.
I will circulate details of funeral arrangements when I receive them.
Yours fraternally but in sadness
Neil Hollingsworth
Provincial Grand Secretary

The Third Annual Fishing Competition between Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire took us to Newark with Nottinghamshire as our hosts.
Organised on this occasion by W. Bro. Bruce Routledge (DPGM of Nottinghamshire), the day proved to be a great success
The fabulous Portland Fishing Lakes were the venue and Woodpecker Lake was allocated to be fished with 5-a-side.
A strong breeze hampered some on the north -east side of the water but a total weight of 234 lb of fish including carp, chubb and rudd in only 5 hours was amazing considering conditions.
Nottinghamshire's W. Bro. John Eldis took the prize for the heaviest fish , an 8lb 4oz carp - however it should be noted this was his home turf!
Lincolnshire's W. Bro. Dave Smith took the honours with a truly amazing heaviest weight of 47lb 11oz- so a technical draw however we couldn't let the fact that Lincolnshire team's overall weight of 137lb11oz was a little heavier than our hosts at 96lb 11oz.
With plenty of camararderie and smiling faces throughout the day, it is always good to catch up with our great friends over the border and long may it continue.See you in Lincolnshire next year.

Donation to National Coastwatch Mablethorpe
The coast and seas of Lincolnshire are renowned for their beauty and are a magnet for thousands of holiday makers from around the country throughout the year.
However, looks can be deceptive and we are prone to notorious off-shore winds and strong currents which sadly claim too many lives. The recent deaths of 2 adults who were bravely attempting to assist children who had got into trouble whilst using inflatables but got into difficulty themselves, are just the latest in a history of such incidents.
Step forward the Mark Masons of Lincolnshire / MBF who presented a donation cheque to Paul Panter, Station Manager of the NCI at Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire who was accompanied by Bro. Bill Stewart, a member of Nene Lodge, no. 427 in Sleaford and other members of the team, to assist them in the great work they do.
The donation has been used to supply computer equipment to the members who man the various coast watch stations, to enable them to do power-point presentations highlighting the dangers of entering the sea in their area. Education they believe is the best way of getting their message out to the communities in Lincolnshire and also in our neighbouring counties - long may their great work continue.

Traveling Gavel claimed by St Wilfrid's Lodge MMM
The Travelling Gavel was claimed from Bayons Lodge of MMM by Saint Wilfrid’s Lodge of MMM on Thursday 22nd May. Saint Wilfid’s were unchallenged when they turned up at Market Rasen with ten members to stake their claim. W. Bro Graham Long collected the gavel on behalf of his successful marauders.
Get a raiding party together from your lodge and stake your claim at the next meeting of St Wilfrid's Lodge MMM, Alford on Monday 27th October 2025.

As you can see from Keith's face, a great time was had by all!
Travelling Sceptre claimed
After a wonderful evening with a host of visitors, and more than one lodge of Royal Ark Mariners trying to claim the Travelling Sceptre, Mercia Lodge RAM were the victors with 10 members present.
The Bayons Lodge RAM also tried to make a claim on the Travelling Sceptre and came second with seven members travelling to enjoy the evening.
A great night was had by all who attended.
If you would like to enjoy a fantastic evening and get a raiding party to claim the Travelling Sceptre for your RAM lodge, get organised and get yourselves down to the next meeting of Mercia Lodge RAM, which holds its installation meeting on Thursday 23rd October, at the Masonic Hall, 21 Pinchbeck Road, Spalding, PE11 1QD.
East to West Challenge
Coast to Coast in 4 day by a combined team of Lincolnshire & Cheshire Mark Masons!!
Cycling from Lincolnshire was myself, Geoff Tuckett, Tony Marston and Chris Fletcher.
On Friday 2nd May, 20 riders set off from Cleethorpes Masonic Hall to Hoylake RNLI on an epic 4 day adventure.
First thing to say is the rider were of mixed abilities, some regular riders but others who hardly ever ride, with an age range of 13 (the daughter of a rider) to 74!!
Day 1 Cleethorpes to Newark, saw us ride through the Wolds to Market Rasen Masonic Hall for coffee, the to Lincoln for a well deserved Lunch, then heading to Collingham for refreshments before the final push to Newark Masonic Hall where we to spend our first night of ‘Hall camping’
61.39 miles, 1698ft Elevation
Day 2 Newark to Longford, and the ride again took us through some beautiful countryside, along the Trent and the Derwent& into the Derbyshire hills, though no real climbing was done today. We then were taken to Derby Masonic Hall for more camping!
52.78 miles, 1089ft elevation
Day 3 Longford to Nantwich, and the dreaded ‘hilly’ day in the Peak District, the first hour relatively flat, but the next was really hard, long steep inclines, some tough gradients but the views were spectacular, and as someone said, after every up there’s a down so the 2nd half of the day was easier with lots of downhill sections, with a stop at Kidsgrove Masonic Hall and finishing at the excellent Nantwich Masonic Centre.
51.25 miles, 2579ft Elevation
Day 4 Nantwich to Hoylake, The final push saw us leave in bright albeit cool sunshine and a ride that took us through Cheshire, into Wales then back into Cheshire, along canals, riversides, and some brilliant bike tracks before we all gathered for the final ride to Hoylake RNLI & a warm welcome!
53.31 miles, 910ft Elevation
And so the challenge is now over, a total of 219 miles, 6276ft Elevation, lots of laughs and a real feeling of camaraderie between all the riders and the support team. So much so that new challenges are being considered.

Freemasonry at its finest!!
There’s STILL time to show your support too - the 4 Lincolnshire Brethren are raising money for the Lincolnshire Craft 2025 Festival - you can donate by using the link below, or by contacting one of us directly!!

PGM hands over two 1250RT BMW motorbikes to Lincolnshire Emergency Blood Bikes
They say the sun shines on the righteous - well that seemed to be the case the other day along with clear blue skies:
The venue - the iconic Bomber command centre at Lincoln;
The occasion - the official hand over of 2 vehicles by our Provincial Grand Master to the Chairman of the Lincolnshire Emergency Blood Bikes.
The vehicles, a 1250RT BMW motorbike (aka Canon Portal) and a Skoda estate car (aka Prince Michael of Kent) were purchased following a generous donation from the Mark Benevolent fund of £25,000, this being a portion of the total donation of £750,000 to the various Blood Bike across the country.
Our PGM, RW Bro Stephen Hallberg accompanied by the DPGM, W.Bro Steve Roberts and the Provincial Charity Steward, W. Bro. Mick Stocker (escorted by their ladies) met up with Neville Wright, the group's Chairman and Gordon Scott, the group's fundraiser., along with a number of their committee, to undertake the pleasurable task - It was also great to see the bike which we donated in 2018 ( a Yamaha FJR1300 aka Mark Mason) looking in pristine condition in spite of the mileage that it has obviously accumulated in the 5 years it has been in service.
The group covers Lincolnshire and Humberside undertaking their life saving work, being currently manned by 156 members, all volunteers, who carry out their essential duties on a rota basis.
Neville, the chairman gave his eternal and grateful thanks to the PGM and the Trustees of the Mark Benevolent Fund for the "superb and generous" donation which has given the Group a big boost and allows them much needed flexibility as their workload increases.
Safe to say Brethren, on behalf of the Mark Benevolent Fund, we have marked well.
The PGM and the DPGM took the opportunity to sit on the bikes - definitely a bit bigger and faster than the Lambrettas they both used to own

Haven Lodge of MMM No. 1732 cheque presentation to 'Bob's Brainwaves' charity
Mick Boulton and Andy Downes, Charity Steward and Treasurer of Haven Lodge of MMM No. 1732 respectively, recently visited the home of the creator and organiser of the charity 'Bob's Brainwaves' to present a donation cheque for £300.
They were warmly welcomed by Chris Suich, the wife of the person whom the charity is named after along with Fay Gorwood, who is the widow of a Mason and an active member of the team of volunteers who provide aid for the charity.
Bob’s Brainwaves supply packs of valuable information and support for those with early diagnosis of memory loss associated with dementia.
A very worthwhile cause - well done to the members of Haven Lodge.
MBF cheque for £11,604 to the Lincoln & Lindsey Blind Society
On behalf of the Trustees of the Mark Benevolent Fund our PGM Steve Hallberg and Provincial Charity Steward Mick Stocker were delighted to present an MBF cheque for £11,604 to the Lincoln & Lindsey Blind Society at their Louth office today .This was to provide 500 starter packs and encourage people with sight impairment or blindness (or their families) to become subscribing members of the Society which does amazing work in the community.
The packs contain useful items such as a device which fits onto a tea/ coffee mug and tells the user when it is full to avoid nasty scalding, a signature template for signing documents, a fridge magnet with Society contact details for family and friends to refer to , and stick on guides for such things as appliance temperature settings etc. These very simple but very effective things are a massive help to the people the society is here to help and we are proud to have been of assistance.
Long may they continue their good work.
From left to right: Karen Reeson, Ingrid Ashton and Hilary Smith of the Lincoln and Lindsey Blind Society.
London Marathon
Brethren, Sunday 27th April 2025 is the London Marathon and whilst most of us will be sitting around in our slippers, probably not doing a lot, Worshipful Brother Geoff Burgoin of St Guthlac Lodge MMM will be pounding the streets at the age of 80 (don't tell him I told you though) running the 26 odd miles to raise money for Cancer research.
Massive respect to Geoff and, if you would like to support him, please visit his just giving page on the attached link.
Good luck Geoff but somehow we don't think that you will need it.

Lincolnshire
Provincial Grand Lodge
22nd March 2025
This year R.W.Bro. Stephen C. Hallberg, Provincial Grand Master for the Mark Masonic Province of Lincolnshire was pleased to welcome twenty two visiting Provincial Grand Masters to the Provincial Meeting at the Epic Centre at the Lincolnshire Showground.

Address by the Provincial Grand Master
Brethren: Good morning and a warm welcome to Lincolnshire and to our Provincial Grand Lodge meeting . Thank you all for attending today , particularly our friends from other Provinces who I know have travelled extremely long distances to be with us. Star prize must go to R. W. Bro Peter Furness PGM of Cornwall, Peter I will be joining you in Newquay on 10th May and looking forward to it immensely. My wife and mother-in-law are coming down with me to re-unite with family in Mevagissey so it will be a nice break for them also. Likewise our friends from the southern part of Wales and England – your dedication to duty is admirable!
This last year has been, as usual, a busy one and immediately following Provincial Grand Lodge last year The John O Gaunt Lodge in Gainsborough celebrated its 150th anniversary. Once again we were blessed with the presence of the Assistant Grand Master RW Bro Denny Wilson who presented the Sesqui-centenary Warrant and who seems now to be our designated Ruler for such occasions residing in Durham, up the A1, not too far away from us here in Lincolnshire.
Of course our own Provincial sesqui-centenary was celebrated in this building in November and I’m delighted over 300 attended a wonderful event. It was a great privilege and honour on your behalf to present the Pro Grand Master with a donation of £20,000 to the newly constituted Grand Masters Keystone Fund. As most of you now know it was brought into existence to mark the Grand Master’s 40 years as head of our Order and specifically to give bursaries to young people to aid them in educational, vocational or sporting activities. I’m reliably informed 2025 will see the first of these bursaries being distributed. Do keep an eye out in the 86 online newsletter which we all receive every Friday afternoon . That donation had the added
advantage of topping up our donations to the Oxfordshire, Hampshire & Isle of Wight and Warwickshire Festivals at the same time.
Looking to upcoming events this year: on April 29th at Grimsby Masonic Centre the Grand Master’s Lodge of Instruction is coming to town and is now fully booked. It promises to be both interesting and enjoyable in equal measure. When I was approached 2 years ago by R W Bro Tom Quinn the PGM of London (in Wiltshire) I had no hesitation in accepting the offer.
However, I do appreciate it has put extreme pressure on our hard working Provincial Secretary already preparing for today’s meeting , and Neil I wish to thank you publicly for the tremendous effort you have put in to making both events come to fruition.
And whilst I’m talking about you- warmest congratulations from us all on your forthcoming promotion to Past Asst. Grand Director of Ceremonies in Supreme Grand Chapter. A great honour and richly deserved.
We ran two very successful Mark Awareness evenings the 17th April last year in Spalding at the Mercia Lodge and again on 13th November 2024 at the Earl of Scarbrough Lodge in Skegness. We will have effectively covered all parts of our Province spreading the word and engaging with Master Masons on the virtues of joining the Mark- I continue to be sad to note some had heard little about our Order and wanted to know more. Our Facebook feed now has almost 600 followers and can be another avenue to get interested parties engaged in our Order. Thank you all involved in keeping it functioning. One certain way of spreading the word is to perform quality ceremonies that candidates will be keen to talk about with friends. It is a fact
that one or two good quality candidates can bring in a rich stream of their Craft brethren and can quickly transform a Lodge’s fortunes. Likewise a Mark Mason being Elevated into Royal Ark Mariner can have a similar positive effect. Please remember if your Lodge needs stand-in Officers the Lincolnshire Provincial Officers Mark Lodge or The Ark Lodge RAM can provide willing, and well qualified members to help you.
Remember the ceremony should the very best impression to a candidate- we owe them that much. Our numbers show encouraging signs with increased advancements and elevations and reduced resignations in both Mark and Ark.
Last year I challenged every member present to go out of their way to ask a Master Mason to come and join us. I think we still have some way to go to achieving that goal.
We have one great threat to face – its called AI- that’s not artificial intelligence- it’s apathy of our own members and ignorance of others. It is only by us talking one to one with Craft Masons that our existence and benefits can be demonstrated. Use the tri-fold leaflets available to download on our website and encourage them to learn more about us. Only by doing that can we properly engage. My message continues to be - start asking people to join us. You will be amazed how many will willingly say ‘’yes’’ and how many will say ‘’I’ve never been asked’’.
W Bro Phil Spicksley our Membership Officer , has continued to be instrumental in organising blue and white table events in Lodges where there is no candidate, and giving thought provoking Talks to encourage awareness and membership. It is a way of inviting Craft Masons to your own Lodge and learning more about us and the benefits of joining- I hope every one of you will give him , me, and the Province every bit of help you can. If you don’t have a ceremony- give him a call, and he will explain the way forward.
We undertook 11 Provincial team visits since Provincial Grand Lodge met last year. On each occasion we have received the warmest of welcomes. On 20th September this year another 150th is taking place for the Sutcliffe Lodge 188 in Grimsby. It will be I’m sure a memorable event.
We have two new Lodges to Consecrate in the near future, one Mark and one Royal Ark Mariner. The ‘’Open Road’’ Lodge MMM, with a fair wind will come into existence before the summer recess ends in September. ‘’The Lodge of the Land’’ Royal Ark Mariner Lodge ’’, Long Sutton , is also on the horizon.
Moving to Charity: we continue to keep up our support for the forthcoming Mark MBF Festivals in the same way others supported us. We have as you now know donated a further £15,000 to the Craft 2025 Festival , and our Craft PGM has already explained his genuine gratitude. This brings us up to a magnificent £50, 000 donated to the Craft 2025 Festival during my tenure of office for which we must all be mightily proud. My sincere thanks to every Mark/ Ark Mariner Mason in this Province for the tremendous generosity which has allowed this to happen.
Finally on the subject of charitable giving we in Lincolnshire have historically been guilty of not putting forward worthy cause applications for needy local projects to the MBF which could be supported by them . I have been humbled to present on your behalf cheques to The Lincoln Multiple Sclerosis Centre for a replacement automatic door, enabling easier access for wheelchair users. To Green Synergy Project in Lincoln to replace vandalised polytunnel and stolen equipment. To North Kelsey Community Shop for kitting out the premises. Believe me Brethren every one of them were so immensely grateful for the MBF’s financial assistance.
It is a(sad) fact that relatively modest sums donated to a small charity can have a huge positive impact and I’m hopeful more will be forthcoming over the next 12 months. To cap off a truly memorable year on 10th April at the Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln I will on behalf of the Trustees of the MBF present a cheque of £25,000 to the Lincolnshire Blood Bikes Service , part of the MBF Major Grants project giving £750,000 to the Blood Bikes Charities across England & Wales and also a donation presentation on 17th April of £11,604 to the Lincoln & Lindsey Blind Society for starter packs.
If you feel you know of any charitable organisation requiring necessary capital equipment to be replaced then please approach Province and start the ball rolling.
These applications can be dealt with extremely quickly which is the guiding principle of the MBF of course. The criteria for worthy cause donations is available to view on
the MBF website but in any doubt contact W Bro Mick Stocker our hard working Charity Steward who will give guidance.
To this end I ask you all to continue making donations to our Lincolnshire Mark Benevolent Fund with gift aid envelope collections. Linked to this charitable giving is our quarterly Mark Prize Draw – I encourage all those participating to continue to do so. It distributes great prizes , and gives us the ability to fund both our Provincial Grand Lodge in this magnificent setting and it also provides funds for Festival donations, something we can be very proud of.
Turning to Grand Mark Lodge : we were pleased to attend at the June 2024 Investiture meeting and see W Bro Phil Spicksley ,receive first appointment to the active rank of AGSwdB , and in September W Bro’s Ian Castledine and Alan Farmer to PGJD’s and and W Bro. Rod Rouse promoted to PAGDC. They are a reward for past services but more importantly to future commitment and service. In December at the Royal Ark Mariner Assembly we saw W. Bro’s Colin Burke and Tony Marsden receive promotions to Grand Rank in the ancient and honourable fraternity – once again richly deserved.
Lastly I congratulate all Provincial Officers appointed, promoted and invested today and remind each and every one how very important the rank is- you will be looked up to for an example of good order and practice, and for that reason I ask you set high standards for yourselves and all those around you.
Provincial Grand Lodge requires a tremendous amount of organisation and once again I do sincerely thank our hard working Provincial team for all their efforts in making today possible and in particular White Stone Lodge , Lincoln, for their ever present support and sponsoring Lodge- St Botolph’s Lodge , Boston . Thank you all for getting today to run so smoothly.
We can all do a great deal to promote our two Orders of Mark and Royal Ark Mariner, both beautiful in their own rights. Essential to this of course is ensuring our Craft Lodges remain vibrant and providing the right men to join freemasonry .
I continue to be thankful to you all for the great privilege of being your Provincial Grand Master and wish you continued happiness in our Mark & Royal Ark Mariner Masonry.
May the Great Overseer of the Universe Bless you All & Mark well.
Provincial Grand Master
22nd March 2025.
Congratulations to VW Bro Keith Robinson
& Travelling Sceptre moves on
On Thursday, 20th March, the St Oswald Royal Ark Mariners had the honour of welcoming the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master and his team to witness the elevation of Bro Ian Needham as the newest member of the fraternity.

The evening held added significance as it marked the final outing of VW Bro Keith Robinson as the Provincial Grand DC before ceremonially passing the wand to W.Bro Boulton on Saturday. Congratulations to VW Bro Keith Robinson, and heartfelt thanks for your many years of dedicated service.

The Traveling Sceptre was also contested, with a spirited raiding party from St. Deny's Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners in Sleaford, led by the Worshipful Commander, Roly Freeman, successfully claiming it. The next opportunity to compete for the Sceptre will be at their meeting on 7th May. Brethren interested in participating are encouraged to contact the lodge secretary for further details.

Donation to North Kelsey Community Hub
Our PGM, RW Bro Stephen Hallberg was pleased to witness the opening of the North Kelsey Community Hub and delighted our donation, on behalf of the Trustees of the Mark Benevolent Fund and our own Mark Masonic Province of Lincolnshire , has speeded up the completion of the project. He wished the project every success for the future and had no doubt it will become a great success and valuable addition to the local facilities.

This has created a social hub for the village and a shop/cafe - which the village lost a while ago.
This week, the MBF Worthy Causes initiative helped the Lincoln MS Centre with a donation to replace an automatic door to the premises enabling easier access for wheelchair users.
The RW Provincial Grand Master is pictured presenting a cheque to Christine Gray, the centre Chairman and committee members, along with W. Bros Mick Stocker, the Provincial Charity Steward, Neil Hollingsworth, the Provincial Secretary and Giles Harvey of Remigius Lodge 117, who highlighted their plight and brought the application to fruition.
A relatively small donation, monetary wise in some ways when compared to others which the MBF support but one which will undoubtedly prove to be invaluable to the centre and it's users.
The MBF and the Mark Province of Lincolnshire continue to Mark Well.
GRAND MASTER’S LODGES OF INSTRUCTION FESTIVAL
This year’s GRAND MASTER’S LODGES OF INSTRUCTION FESTIVAL will be held at The Masonic Hall, Cambridge Road, Grimsby, Lincolnshire DN34 5SZ on 29 April and is this year, being hosted by the Mark Masonic Province of Lincolnshire, with RW Bro Stephen Charles Hallberg, Provincial Grand Master, as its President.
What is this Festival?
It is an annual event, hosted by different provinces, and consists of demonstrations of both the Royal Ark Mariner Degree and the Mark Degree ceremonies by the GMLOI team. These demonstrations, with an exceptional standard of ritual that include the Royal Ark Mariner Tracing Board as well as the Lecture on the Degree of Mark Master Mason, will be conducted with “live” candidates who will be formally advanced into the Mark degree and elevated into the Royal Ark Mariner degree.
The Royal Ark Mariner degree will be hosted by Bayons Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners, No. 1365 and Bro Richard Hollingsworth is the candidate to be elevated. The Mark degree will be hosted by St. Matthew Lodge of MMM, No. 1239 and the candidate to be advanced will be Bro Eric Whitworth.
This is a major event in this year’s masonic calendar. It is hoped, therefore, that the event will be supported in strength not only by all the brethren in Lincolnshire but also from other Provinces around the country.
It is also anticipated that at least one of the Rulers of the Mark Degree will be present.
The event is expected to commence at 12.00 noon with The Festival Dinner planned for 5.00pm and a close at or around 7.30pm. The cost will be £20.00 per head.
A booking form is available HERE or from your lodge secretary and as there is limited seating of 150, it is suggested that you book early!
